Our story began in 1953 when Douglas W. Lambert moved to the Shoals area from Opelika, Alabama where his dad operated a moving company. On January 13, 1953 he opened an office on South Cherry Street in Florence, Alabama. At that time, the company had two employees and one truck. He later bought an office and warehouse on Limestone Street in Florence. As a result of a relentless pursuit of quality and a lot of hard work, Lambert Transfer as it was named back then, purchased the Flagg Utica building on Huntsville Road and moved to that location in .
Lambert joined United Van Lines in 1960 and is still an agent for United today. In 1973, Brian Lambert came on board and became President of the corporation when Douglas Lambert retired in 1986.
Lambert Transfer changed its name in 1986 and became known as Lambert Moving and Storage, to better reflect its core business.
In the 1990's Lambert Moving and Storage, opened a new division, Lambert Record Management Center. This off site document center now has over 150 clients and over 100,000 containers and over 1,000,000 files that are being tracked with a state of the art bar code tracking system. We also offer pickup and delivery, shredding of outdated containers and files, purging service, file indexing service, scanning and a 24 -hour retrieval service. This division has 5 full time employees and three delivery trucks.
In 1992 the State of Alabama purchased the land and building on Huntsville Road to construct the roadway for the new Patton Island Bridge and connecting roadway. At that time, Lambert Moving and Storage purchased our existing land and building consisting of a 63,000 sq. ft. warehouse, 4,000 sq. ft. office, a 25,000 sq. ft. truck parking shed on 18 acres in the Florence Industrial Park on Roberson Road. Since that purchase, Lambert has constructed a 6,000 sq. ft. truck maintenance shop, a 60 ft. platform public truck scale, and a 12,000 sq. ft. climate/humidity controlled warehouse. Lambert has over 20 trucks and trailers and a staff of over 20 to manage the moving needs of our customers.
